Care Farm
Bishop Tyrell Place is an aged care facility in Cundletown. The Care Farm is a sensory recreational space for the facility’s residents and families. It include beds of herbs, flowers and vegetables, a seedling greenhouse, bush tucker garden, chickens, ducks, alpacas, goats, pigs, a small orchard, olive grove, composting systems, barn and seating areas.
The Care Farm partnership was developed to provide opportunities for a diverse range of students to complete project based learning and community participation activities. These have included:
• TAFE Construction students have poured pathways and a concrete slab for the outdoor learning area. Picnic tables and seating are also being constructed.
• Students with a disability are developing workplace skills and increased independence as they have taken responsibility for routine weekly tasks in the farm such as feeding, cleaning and weeding.
• Art students are completing mosaic signs for the garden to add visual stimuli for the residents.
Staff and students from Chatham High Support Unit value the opportunities provided as expressed in an email....
Things are going really well at the Care Farm; we have been there every Wednesday morning with a group of students from Judy's senior class. It has been very productive and Rick has been fantastic with his support and ideas and assistance with getting us settled and used to the routines. The students have been really getting involved (except for cleaning out the goat poo, which seems to have become my job!!) I have attached some photos we took this morning, hope they are OK. We are really excited about this as a work site and can see it having great benefits for our students in the future.

Mike and Judy
